Description
The beautiful waterfall comprises of series of three falls with heights of 100m, 85m & 75m respectively located in Kapchorwa, district northeast of Sironko and Mbale. The waterfalls lie on the edge of Mount Elgon National Park near the Kenyan border. The Sipi Falls area is the starting point for many hikes up Mt. Elgon. Mount Elgon National Park is 140km North East of Lake Victoria and 280km from Kampala with estimated driving time of about 5 – 6hrs.
Enjoy a soothing atmosphere of the cool weather at Sipi Falls touring the spectacular views of the Mt Elgon from up and the Karamoja plains disappearing from below. Other popular tourist activities here include a trek/hike to each of the three waters, abseiling and nature walk and local community visit. The Sipi area is particularly famous for locally grown Bugisu Arabica coffee. Bugisu Arabica only grows at an altitude of between 1,600 and 1,900 metres. Coffee tours are organized through guides with knowledge of coffee farming, processing and roasting.

3 Day-2 nights Sipi Falls Safari Itinerary
Day One: We pick you up at your lodging for the journey to Mount Elgon in eastern Uganda, a 5 hour journey past the Mabira Forest, then onward to Sipi Falls where we check in at the Lacam Lodge or Sipi Falls Resort (or hotel of your choice in the area) for the next two nights. There are a number of backpackers / campsites in the area offering a range of budget accommodations.
Enjoy a delightful lunch, most with local ingredients grown around the Mount Elgon area, even the coffee or tea comes from around here. Both Lodges have an excellent cuisine that you will enjoy for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
After Lunch we begin to explore the nearby main Sipi Falls which is a set of 3 falls, there are caves behind the main falls. Be on the look for lots of birds to discover as you climb all the way to the top of the falls. The views are breathtaking, the hike takes about 2½ hours and make for a great afternoon.
Keep an eye open for Tacazze, Sunbirds , Turacos and Hornbill birds as many are in the area.
Return to Lodging for dinner and a wonderful view of the scenery around you. Enjoy the sunset and also get a good night’s rest.
Day 2: Morning Breakfast at lodging, a packed lunch for the day and off we go for a day of hiking and birding on Mount Elgon. We take a short drive to the Mount Elgon Exploration Center we take a day trail montane and bamboo forests, there are splendid views of Mount Elgon and the valleys below. Fields of wildflowers, butterflies, and birds such as the black and white casqued Hornbill, Hartlaub’s Turaco, bar-tailed Trogon, grey throated Barbet, Montane Oriole, Mountain Greenbull and Black Collared Apalis to name just a few.
We enjoy our picnic lunch along the way and return to the lodging facility in the late afternoon. Dinner and rest on Mount Elgon.
Day 3: Breakfast and then it off for Jinja where we go to the source of the Nile River Park and see where the White Nile and Lake Victoria merge. Lunch at the Sunset Hotel or Hotel Paradise, both overlooking the Nile River. We used to include Bujagali falls on this trip but the falls are now flooded with the new dam water. The falls have been turned into a dam.
