CNN Travel didn’t hold back when they named Kidepo Valley one of the best parks in Africa. Marvel at herds of buffaloes and elephants, and keep an eye out for lions—renowned UK wildlife photographer Will Burrard-Lucas believes the real Lion King, Spartacus, roams here.

People rave about Kidepo Valley as one of the top safari destinations in Africa, and you’ll quickly see why. The stunning landscapes, from rugged mountains to semi-arid valleys, remind many of Hemingway’s “Green Hills of Africa.” So why wait? Discover Untamed Africa: Your 4-Day Deluxe Air-Travel Safari to Kidepo Valley Unveiled

Day 1: Take to the Skies for Kidepo Valley with Aerolink Safari Airline

Your journey kicks off at 11:00 am when we collect you from your hotel in Entebbe and whisk you off to Entebbe International Airport. Here, you’ll board your Aerolink flight set to depart at 12:30 p.m. for Kidepo Valley. Arrival time is 2:45 pm, and from there, we’ll shuttle you to the luxurious Apoka Safari Lodge. Note: Luggage is limited to 15kg.

After settling in, enjoy a late lunch or some nibbles to refuel before we guide you on an afternoon game drive through the abundant Narus Valley. Expect to see large herds of buffaloes, elephants, giraffes, lions, leopards, and cheetahs, not to mention various species of antelopes. This year-round watering hole in the park even houses a rare type of crocodile.

What truly captures your attention is the surrounding rugged and stunning scenery. As the day wraps up, partake in the time-honored Safari Sundowner, a tradition tracing back to British colonial days when gin and tonic were staples for malaria prevention. These days, it’s all about Ugandan Waragi and Krest Bitter Lemon Soda, enjoyed as the sun dips below the horizon and the African night comes alive.

Of course, you’re not limited to gin and tonic for your Sundowner; opt for wine, beer, or another drink of your choice, usually accompanied by delicious snacks like samosas.

Lodging: Apoka Safari Lodge Meal Plan: Lunch – Dinner

Day 2: Kidepo Valley Adventure – Wildlife Encounters & Local Culture

Kick off your day with a Bush Breakfast, a classic Safari tradition that tastes even better in the great outdoors. As you sip on premium Ugandan coffee brewed from Arabica beans, keep an eye out for unexpected wildlife guests. Your morning toast crisps over an open fire, adding an authentic touch to your meal.

Choose to have your bush breakfast before or after a thrilling game drive, as they complement each other perfectly. Witness the majestic animals of Kidepo Valley in their natural habitat, from towering giraffes to stealthy leopards.

Return to Apoka Lodge for a tasty lunch, and then prepare for an enlightening cultural visit. Meet the Karamojong people, a community of warrior nomads whose lives revolve around cattle. Though they were once feared for cattle raiding across borders, modern Karamojong is peaceful yet still passionate about their herds. This visit offers you a unique glimpse into authentic African culture, particularly the traditions and beliefs of the Karamojong people living in the Karamoja region.

Wrap up your action-packed day with a captivating sunset at Apoka Safari Lodge.

Day 3: Encounter the Indigenous Ik People of Mount Morungole

Journey to the Ik Village:
Today promises to be one of the most captivating experiences of your African adventure. Prepare to meet the Ik, an indigenous tribe residing on the breathtaking Mount Morungole. Their population is modest at about 13,000, but their culture and history are rich and unique.

The Trek:
Don your hiking boots, grab your packed lunch from Apoka Safari Lodge, and set out for an 8-hour round-trip hike up the mountain. The path is steep and rugged, adding a layer of excitement to your day. Along the way, you’ll need energy snacks like dried fruits and plenty of water, so pack accordingly.

Discover Ik Culture:
Unlike most communities in Sub-Saharan Africa, where brides are traditionally acquired with cows, the Ik have a unique custom involving beehives. You’ll have the chance to learn more about their fascinating ways of dispelling any myths you might have heard. One debunked myth is from Colin Turnbull’s book, “The Mountain People,” which inaccurately depicted the Ik as incapable of love. Today, you’ll witness their warm hospitality firsthand.

Essential Gear:
Don’t forget to bring a daypack, hiking boots, long trousers, and a long-sleeved shirt for optimal protection during the hike. A hat for sun protection, and perhaps a porter to carry your daypack and a walking stick, can make your trek more comfortable.

Day 4: Farewell to Kidepo and Return to Entebbe

Your Final Morning: Savor one last delicious breakfast at Apoka Lodge; it’s a moment you’ll miss. Choose between a guided nature walk or a final game drive to bid Kidepo Valley National Park a heartfelt goodbye.

A Fond Farewell: Relish a final meal at the lodge, soak in unforgettable memories, and capture a few more photos. All good things must end, but the memories you’ve collected will last a lifetime.

The Flight Back: Board your 3:00 pm flight back to Entebbe, and don’t forget to keep your camera ready for some awe-inspiring aerial shots of “the pearl of Africa.” You’ll touch down in Entebbe at around 4:30 p.m.

Upon Arrival: Your driver-guide will greet you at the airport and escort you to your hotel. If you’re leaving Uganda, we can assist with your departure arrangements.

Lodging: Optional arrangements can be made for a stay at a hotel in Entebbe.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch

Note: Customise any part of this safari to suit your preferences. We can also arrange your arrival and departure hotels in Entebbe, which can be included in the safari package.
