3-Day Ishasha Plains Tree Climbing Lions Safari
Off the beaten path – a 3 Day Tree Climbing Lion Safari at Queen Elizabeth Park Ishasha Sector in search of Tree Climbing Lions and more. This is one of the must do while in Uganda – Uganda is unique with its Gorillas, Chimpanzees, countless of Birds – and the Tree Climbing Lions are another one of the unique features that make Uganda the Pearl of Africa.
Day 1: Depart Kampala the morning after breakfast (6:30 or 7 am is best) for your tree climbing lion adventure in Ishasha south of Queen Elizabeth Park. (English speaking driver – Safari Equipped Vehicle). The journey takes you through several Uganda’s towns like Masaka, Lyantonde to Mbarara town where we have our lunch at the Igongo Cultural Center.
After our lunch we continue through the tea plantations at Igara in Ishaka,through Kalinzu Forest Reserve and finally to a great view point of Queen Elizabeth National Park and the Kyambura Gorge (escarpment). Drive the 70km dirt road with great sightings of Elephants, Uganda Kobs, waterbucks and lots of Baboons. Arrive in Ishasha, check into the lodging you selected. There is Ishasha Wilderness Camp, Ishasha Ntugwe Camp or Savannah Resort Hotel. Late afternoon nature walk along the river watching the hippos frolic in the water, birds all around, wildlife of all kind and one thing you will notice is the quietness of the area. Return to the lodge for dinner and a well deserved night rest.
Day 2: Morning Breakfast at your lodge and its off for a morning game drive coming across herds of buffaloes, elephants and countless of different antelopes, birds of all kinds around you, and most likely you are the only vehicle. A wildlife – birding expert on board to point out what you otherwise might miss.
Lunch and rest
Late afternoon game drive down to the Lake Edward floodplains and you just might find a shoebill stork if you look carefully and once again you will have the assistance of a Wildlife expert on board to assist you and hopefully you will see an occasional leopard and spot more tree climbing lions.
Dinner
Day 3: Breakfast, and check out then your last game drive across the fabulous savannah plains of Ishasha spotting the abundance of wildlife and birds along the way. Keep in mind that there are only two places in the world with tree climbing lions and you are in the area where they are seen most often. Lunch stop then drive to Kampala, arrive early evening.
